There are many types of leather products. The creation process starts with carefully selecting the right materials. By using high-quality leather that preserves its natural texture, the skill of handcrafting truly stands out. Let’s take a closer look at how high-quality leather is made.
Vegetable tanned leather

The raw skin is salted to prevent it from rotting or drying out and hardening. Remove the skin’s hair, soften it and turn it into leather. This process is called tanning.
The reason why it is vegetable is that it uses tannin extracted from plants during the tanning stage. Vegetable tanned leather does not use heavy metals or chemicals during the tanning process. Although it takes time, it is a leather that brings out the most features of natural materials and natural leather, and is also environmentally friendly and human-friendly.
Bottega Glicine, we carefully select high-quality cowhide leather made in Japan and Italy, with a particular focus on vegetable-tanned leather.
Italian leather –
The Italian leather used here is tanned using the traditional vacchetta method, which originates from the Tuscany region.
This method avoids the use of chemical substances and involves a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. As a result, the leather becomes soft, with a unique firmness and color that is shaped by handcraft, meaning that even when using the same process, subtle variations in color emerge with each batch.

The skill and attention to detail of the craftsmen who produce the leather for our leather products enhances the overall quality of the final product.
Tochigi leather –
As for Japanese leather, Tochigi Leather is renowned for its top-tier quality and is globally recognized. In Japan, leather is tanned slowly using tannins extracted from mimosa tree bark.
The characteristics are vivid, distinct colors.
